Sorry for the blog’s lack of updates in terms of movie news and trailers. I’ve been busy the past week flooded with assessments and homework, so for that I do apologize.

However, the show must go on and here’s what’s been happening with movie news for the past week.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the first two casting announcements for upcoming ‘X-Men’ spin-off ‘New Mutants’. ‘Split’ star Anya Taylor-Joy and ‘Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams have been cast in director Josh Boone’s ‘New Mutants’ movie. Taylor-Joy will play Magik, who has powers of sorcery, and Williams will play Wolfsbane, a girl who has the powers to turn into a wolf. This is an exciting casting announcement and increases interest in Fox’s new ‘X-Men’ spin-off film. ‘New Mutants’ is set for an April 13th, 2018 release. Just under a year away folks!

And speaking of ‘X-Men’, the FOX network has released the first trailer for the upcoming ‘X-Men’ series ‘The Gifted’, set in the ‘X-Men’ film timeline.

The show introduces a family element to the series, as two teenagers discover they have powers, but the twist is that their father hunts down mutants. The show looks interesting, judging by the trailer, and here’s hoping this is a big hit for FOX when the new series ‘The Gifted’ premieres this fall.

Sony releases first full trailer for ‘The Emoji Movie’

Whether you are happy, sad or angry with this movie, Sony Pictures have released the first full trailer for ‘The Emoji Movie’.

While the trailer didn’t sell me this movie, it is arguably better than the “meh” teaser trailer Sony Pictures released back in December. The trailer introduces the main character Gene, a meh emoji who is struggling to make a “meh” facial expression. Because he made the wrong face, when his phone user sends his crush a “meh” emoji, Gene and his friends must banter together to fix Gene. ‘The Emoji Movie’ makes its debut in cinemas on July 28th.

Jimmy Kimmel will host the ‘Oscars’, yet again!

While this year’s ‘Oscars’ telecast was left in controversy on which movie actually won Best Picture. However, Jimmy Kimmel actually did a very good job hosting the show, and in my opinion the best host in recent memory. Because of his successful hosting duties, Jimmy Kimmel is back again as the host for next year’s ‘Oscars’. ‘The 90th Academy Awards’ will air Sunday, March 4th, 2018 on ABC.
