The long delayed ‘Avatar’ sequels have new release dates, announced today on the official ‘Avatar’ Facebook page.

Instead of getting one sequel ‘Avatar 2’, we are getting four sequels, now with release dates attached to these projects.

  • ‘Avatar 2’ will open on December 18th, 2020,
  • ‘Avatar 3’ will open on December 17th, 2021,
  • ‘Avatar 4’ will open on December 20th, 2024, and
  • ‘Avatar 5’ will open on December 19th, 2025.

What’s interesting is that there is a three year gap between ‘Avatar 3’ and ‘Avatar 4’, since these four ‘Avatar’ sequels will be shot back-to-back. However, it reaffirms the franchise’s December release after the 2009 film became a box office phenomenon, grossing over $2.7 billion globally and remains as the highest grossing film worldwide, ever.

The page had this to follow:

“Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels.”

Here’s hoping these dates don’t change, again.
