Sony continues to plan other ‘Spider-Man’ properties, without the help from Marvel Studios.

Exhibitor Relations have posted on Twitter that Sony’s ‘Venom’ movie has now landed a release date, scheduled for theatres on October 5th, 2018.

Originally reported that ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ writer Alex Kurtzman was writing the ‘Venom’ movie. Sony provided an update to Exhibitor Relations that screenwriter Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (two of the writers for the upcoming ‘Jumanji’ movie) will instead pen the screenplay for their ‘Venom’ movie.

No word from Sony if this film takes place in the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, or does ‘Venom’ take place outside of the MCU canon? Considering Sony placed the date, and it isn’t part of Marvel Studios’ current phase three plans, I’m speculating it will the latter and be its own thing, much alike ‘Deadpool’ is its own thing and not really placed in the current ‘X-Men’ timeline.
