Looks like Robert Downey Jr. will be talking to animals in his next project.

Deadline reports that ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ star Robert Downey Jr. will play the pivotal role as the doctor in Universal Pictures ‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle’, based upon the popular children’s book series ‘Doctor Dolittle’ by author Hugh Lofting, starting in the 1920’s.

‘Syriana’ and ‘Gold’ director Stephen Gaghan will not only direct the movie, but also pen the script.

You’re probably familiar with the name ‘Doctor Dolittle’ as Eddie Murphy starred in the 1998 film to huge financial success, resulting in a theatrical sequel and three direct-to-DVD sequels with Dolittle’s daughter taking over the franchise, portrayed by ‘The Proud Family’ star Kyla Pratt. However, the Eddie Murphy film was a reboot to a 1967 film with the same name, earning a Best Picture nomination at ‘The Academy Awards’ of that year.
