Disney will be celebrating after the results for its newest movie ‘Beauty and the Beast’, a live-action adaptation of their much loved 1991 animated film.
‘Beauty and the Beast’ broke the highest opening weekend record for a March release in the United States as it opened this weekend to $170 million, beating out previous record holder ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ when it opened last March to $166 million.
This puts the 2017 version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ as the seventh highest grossing opening weekend of all-time in the United States as reported by Box Office Mojo.
The film is also the highest opening weekend for a live-action Disney film to be based on their animated movies, as ‘Beauty and the Beast’ overtook previous champ ‘Alice in Wonderland’s $116.1 million when that film was released back in 2010.
You can check out the tale as old as time now playing in cinemas in the USA, whereas Australian moviegoers have to wait until this Thursday (March 23rd) to see the live-action adaptation on the big screen.
