The force is strong with Disney right now. The studio recently crossed $6 billion in total global box office for 2016, for the first time in its history. That is thanks to many factors but not least of all because the Mouse House seems to know its fans better than any other studio. Case in point: their phenomenal casting in each of their films. First we learned that Alden Ehrenreich would play Solo in the second as-of-yet-untitled ‘Star Wars Story’ spin-off film, after this December’s ‘Rogue One’, and only last month came the tremendously exciting news that Donald Glover will be playing Lando Calrissian. Now we have the casting of our first actress and it’s a big one.
Emilia Clarke, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in ‘Game of Thrones’, has now joined the ranks of the ‘Star Wars’ universe. The news comes via StarWars.com and while we still have yet to learn what role she might play in the spin-off, it seems likely that she will be the female lead of the film. Whatever the case, her casting will no doubt excite fans of the HBO series who have watched Clarke grow from her debut acting performance. She definitely has the potential for greatness, so let’s hope Phil Lord and Chris Miller give her the chance to show it.
The untitled Han Solo movie is scheduled for release in a galaxy near you May 25, 2018
