“Willy Wonka, here he is”.
After two film versions based on Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, another Wonka film looks to be on the cards for Warner Bros.
Variety broke the news as they reported that Warner Bros. has acquired the intellectual property rights of Willy Wonka from Dahl’s Estate, with the intention on creating a film that explores Willy Wonka’s earlier adventures, before he was known as the famous chocolate tier wizard, rather than just another remake of the source material.
Warner Bros. is working with ‘Harry Potter’ producer David Heyman on this scrumdidlyumptious project.
Currently, there’s been two versions of the character on-screen. The late and great Gene Wilder is well known as the iconic character in the 1971 feature, while Johnny Depp portrayed the character in the underrated 2005 film.
It’ll be interesting to see who will play the character this time around.
Here’s a line from the infamous boat scene from ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ which fits the story of another Wonka adventure:
“There’s no earthly way of knowing in which direction we are going”.
