“It’s Morphin’ Time”.

Any 90’s kid will recognize that catchphrase from the popular Fox Kids program ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ which ran for three seasons from 1993-1995, which spawned two feature films, one in 1995, and the other in 1997 based on the ‘Turbo’ series, and kicked off a franchise which to this day stands at eighteen incarnations of the series.

Forwarding time to 2016, Lionsgate and Saban Brands have released the teaser trailer for next year’s highly anticipated movie ‘Power Rangers’.

As a mega fan of the original 1993 show growing up as a kid, there are things that are familiar, while there are also things that are different, and you know what, I’m all in with this reboot.

What looks familiar is that the rangers are living in Angel Grove (phew!), and the power coins, while looking ancient compared to the 1993 series, is a familiar concept in the ‘Power Rangers’ lore. I’m very excited to see how the new rangers will interpret these new incarnations of the original series characters of Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Trini and Zack.

‘Power Rangers’ stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin and Elizabeth Banks, with Bryan Cranston and Bill Hader. The film is directed by Dean Israelite (‘Project Almanac’).

‘Power Rangers’ morphs into theatres on March 24th, 2017.
