“Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming”.

Dory just kept swimming, but she eventually found the billion dollar club. ‘Finding Dory’ has now grossed over $1 billion, becoming the 27th film in history to do so (24th when re-releases are excluded).

‘Dory’ is now the fifth animated film in history to gross more than a billion dollars (‘behind ‘Frozen’, ‘Minions’, ‘Toy Story 3’ and ‘Zootopia’), and Disney’s second animated film to join the billion dollar club this year, joining ‘Zootopia’. It is also Disney’s third billion dollar film for 2016, behind ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ‘Zootopia’ respectively. Additionally, it is Pixar’s second film to gross more than $1 billion (the first was ‘Toy Story 3’ in 2010).

‘Finding Dory’ is Disney’s 12th billion dollar film, more than any other studio in history, and this year marks the first time in history that two animated films have grossed more than a billion dollars at the yearly box office, which ironically are both distributed by Disney.

Top Billion Dollar Animated Films:
  1. Frozen – $1.287 billion
  2. Minions – $1.159 billion
  3. Toy Story 3 – $1.067 billion
  4. Zootopia – $1.023 billion
  5. FINDING DORY – $1.001 billion*
