TOP STORY OF THE WEEK:

FORMER ‘DOCTOR WHO’ STAR JOINS THE NEW ‘JUMANJI’ FILM

Whether this new ‘Jumanji’ film is a sequel or a reboot is yet to be clarified, but what we do know is that Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black have been cast for this new adventure of ‘Jumanji’. Variety reports that former ‘Doctor Who’ star Karen Gillan has joined the cast of the new ‘Jumanji’ film as the leading female role, however her the character she is playing has been kept under wraps. Gillan is also known for her role in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ as Nebula. The new ‘Jumanji’ film debuts in theatres on July 28th, 2017.

THE WIZARDING WORLD MAY BE GETTING BIGGER?

It’s been a slow week for movie news, so anything could get into the News Report this week, so it was a bit of a stretch for movie news. NY Daily News report that Warner Bros. is  considering to adapt the latest play ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ in three parts to present in theatres as soon as 2020. While I see 2020 as very unlikely right now, considering ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ is currently scheduled for November 2020, releasing two films set in the Wizarding World just seems unlikely. Not even ‘Star Wars’ has two films released in a single year. The reason why it isn’t the top story of the week is that this considered more as a rumour as Warner Bros. hasn’t announced this officially, so take this with a grain of salt for now, but in the time where franchises seem to never end, I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets announced one day. But for the meantime, we have ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ to look forward too in two months time on November 18th.

JON FAVREAU RETURNS TO THE MCU

Happy Hogan is having a homecoming when he returns back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Variety broke the news that Jon Favreau will return to reprise his role as Happy Hogan in next year’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, joining co-star Robert Downey Jr. Happy has previously appeared in the three ‘Iron Man’ films. ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ swings into theatres on July 7th, 2017.

KING ARTHUR IN ‘TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT’

Whether you like the films or not, one thing is quite clear, ‘Transformers’ is a massive box office property having grossed a total of $3.8 billion with its four released films so far. Casting news for the next ‘Transformers’ film has been revealed as Mashable broke the news that actor Liam Garrigan will play King Arthur in ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’, which coincidentally has also played King Arthur before in the popular ABC television series ‘Once Upon A Time’. The next ‘Transformers’ film debuts in theatres on June 23rd, 2017.
