‘London Has Fallen’ is directed by Babak Najafi and stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman. This film is the sequel to 2013’s ‘Olympus Has Fallen’, and while I never saw the first film, this sequel is convoluted and messy.

The film is about Mike Banning, a secret service agent who seeks out to protect the President. While at a funeral in London, they pay their respects for the falling prime minister, when all out of nowhere the city has been invaded, and I guess fallen.

The film offers over-the-top violent action scenes, and while they are the highlight of this film, there is enjoyment to be had. What I found to be quite excellent on a technical aspect is one of the action sequences towards the last half of this movie, as it offers some very well directed shots, making it seem like it is as one continuous shot, and I really enjoyed it. Very well directed.

What doesn’t work is basically anything when it comes to characters and the story. Sure, the characters seem likeable enough, Mike is about to have a baby with his wife, the President is very smart, but also very kind for others. What lacks is characterization, sure there was a witty line or two, but everything else lacked substance and motivation.

Oh, and there are about twenty characters given names on the bottom of the screen with their job description? How am I supposed to remember their names if they have little screen time? Maybe just their job titles would have suited instead?

Overall, ‘London Has Fallen’ is contrived, tiring, and lacks real substance towards character and story. However, there is enjoyment to be had with some really stellar action sequences that really elevates this film’s status.
